Model-based simulation and performance evaluation of grid scheduling strategies

چکیده
Simulation studies of Grid scheduling strategies require representative workloads to produce dependable results. Real production Grid workloads have shown diverse correlation structures and scaling behavior, which are different to the characteristics of the available supercomputer workloads and cannot be captured by Poisson or simple distribution-based models. We present statistical models that are able to reproduce various autocorrelation structures, including pseudo-periodicity and long range dependence. By conductingmodel-based simulation,we quantitatively evaluate the performance impacts of workload autocorrelations in Grid scheduling. The results indicate that autocorrelations result in system performance degradation, both at the local and the Grid level. It is shown that realistic workload modeling is not only possible, but also necessary to enable dependable Grid scheduling studies. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

A New Job Scheduling in Data Grid Environment Based on Data and Computational Resource Availability
Data Grid is an infrastructure that controls huge amount of data files, and provides intensive computational resources across geographically distributed collaboration. The heterogeneity and geographic dispersion of grid resources and applications place some complex problems such as job scheduling. Most existing scheduling algorithms in Grids only focus on one kind of Grid jobs which can be data...
متن کاملEconomic-based Distributed Resource Management and Scheduling for Grid Computing
Grid computing, emerging as a new paradigm for next-generation computing, enables the sharing, selection, and aggregation of geographically distributed heterogeneous resources for solving large-scale problems in science, engineering, and commerce. The resources in the Grid are heterogeneous and geographically distributed. Availability, usage and cost policies vary depending on the particular us...
متن کاملNon-Cooperative Grids: Game-Theoretic Modeling and Strategy Optimization
Selfish behaviors of individual machines in a Grid can potentially damage the performance of the system as a whole. However, scrutinizing the Grid by taking into account the non-cooperativeness of machines is a largely unexplored research problem. In this paper, we first present a new hierarchical game-theoretic model of the Grid that matches well with the physical administrative structure in r...

The data grid technology, which uses the scale of the Internet to solve storage limitation for the huge amount of data, has become one of the hot research topics. Recently, data replication strategies have been widely employed in distributed environment to copy frequently accessed data in suitable sites. The primary purposes are shortening distance of file transmission and achieving files from ...
متن کاملApplication of the Min-Projection and the Model Predictive Strategies for Current Control of Three-Phase Grid-Connected Converters: a Comparative Study
This paper provides a detailed comparative study concerning the performance of min-projection strategy (MPS) and model predictive control (MPC) systems to control the three-phase grid connected converters. To do so, first, the converter is modeled as a switched linear system. Then, the feasibility of the MPS technique is investigated and its stability criterion is derived as a lower limit on th...
